Mondragon is a town and municipality in Gipuzkoa Province, Basque Country, Spain, with a population of around 22,000 people.

The etymology of the name Arrasate is not clear, but it includes the words ate, which in Basque means door, passage or gate, and arras, which has no clear meaning. The village was located in the place where the rivers Deva and Aramayona, and two roads that came down from Alava to the coast.
The hydrography is represented by two rivers, Deva and Aramayona, which join at the exit of the village. The tributaries Sagurdia and Epele flow into the Deva, and Ekutiano, Kobate and Miatz into the Aramayona. Mondragón has 4,706 inhabitants, living in 460 houses.
